Pertamina EP Zone 4 Targets Higher Oil Output in 2026

PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Zone 4 aims to increase its oil production to 30,305 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) by 2026. In addition to boosting oil output, the company is also targeting gas production of 485.07 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) to support Indonesia’s energy supply.

“PEP Zone 4 continues to encourage production growth through sustainable operational practices that support national energy resilience. Safety remains a top priority in all operational activities,” said PEP Zone 4 General Manager Djudjuwanto in a written statement on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

The target will be pursued through more strategic operational approaches, particularly by optimizing production from existing fields. The company will strengthen its drilling program, integrate subsurface studies with production facilities, and utilize technology and data analytics to improve field economics.

To achieve this target, Djudjuwanto said PEP Zone 4 will intensify infill, interfield, and step-out drilling programs. These programs will utilize two-dimensional and three-dimensional seismic data, including passive seismic technology, to update geological and reservoir models.

The company is also implementing a revitalization program for mature oil and gas fields. This initiative aims to optimize production facilities and apply new technologies to mitigate the natural decline in production.

Djudjuwanto noted that the 2026 production target was set based on PEP Zone 4’s positive performance in 2025. Last year, the company recorded oil production of 27,643 BOPD and gas production of 530.9 MMSCFD.

Production growth is also reflected in the contribution of the development drilling program. Oil production from this program increased significantly from 385 BOPD in 2019 to 3,874 BOPD in 2025. Gas production also rose sharply from 0.34 MMSCFD to 12.21 MMSCFD, or nearly 40 times higher.

This increase is in line with the rise in drilling activities, which grew from nine drilling programs in 2019 to 69 in 2025.

“Throughout 2025, the company carried out various operational programs, including drilling 69 wells, conducting 51 workovers, and performing 1,049 well intervention and well service activities. All of these activities were implemented under strict risk management,” he said.

PEP Zone 4 operates under Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) in the Regional Sumatra area as part of the Pertamina Upstream Subholding.

The region manages several oil and gas working areas, including Prabumulih Field, Limau Field, Adera Field, Pendopo Field, Ramba Field, as well as the Ogan Komering and Raja Tempirai areas.

Its operational area covers two cities — Prabumulih and Palembang — and nine regencies in South Sumatra: Muara Enim, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI), Lahat, Musi Rawas, Musi Rawas Utara, Musi Banyuasin, Banyuasin, Ogan Ilir, and Ogan Komering Ulu.
