Fire Damages Tomorrowland Mainstage Ahead of Opening Day, Festival Still On

On Wednesday, July 16, the mainstage of Tomorrowland — the renowned Belgian electronic dance music festival — caught fire, just one day before approximately 100,000 attendees were expected to arrive.

According to statements released on the festival’s official website and Instagram account, the mainstage sustained significant damage in what was described as a “serious fire incident.” The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, but organizers confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Kay Soesbergen, a food vendor who regularly works at festivals in the Netherlands and Belgium, was present at the scene. She told Billboard that she saw heavy smoke rising from the festival grounds. “That’s when we knew something was wrong,” she said. Moments later, fireworks began to go off, and she received a call from her supervisor informing her that the mainstage was on fire.

Despite the damage, Tomorrowland is still scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 17, with a full lineup of electronic music performances. Organizers assured fans that the festival will proceed as planned.

In an official statement, it was confirmed that DreamVille — the on-site camping area — will open on schedule, and all related events in Brussels and Antwerp will continue without interruption.

This week marks the first of two festival weekends, with the second scheduled to run from July 24 to 27. According to CNA, the first weekend will feature major electronic music acts performing on the Main Stage and Freedom Stage, including David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, Armin van Buuren, and Charlotte de Witte.
