Year-End Holiday Rush Sends Over 1.5 Million Vehicles Out of Greater Jakarta
Indonesia’s toll road operator, PT Jasa Marga, reported a significant increase in outbound traffic from the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area during the year-end holiday period.
On Saturday, December 27, 2025 — one day after the start of the year-end holidays — a total of 1,556,310 vehicles departed Jabodetabek, reflecting heightened travel activity in Southeast Asia’s largest economy during the peak holiday season.
The data were collected from four main toll gates: Cikupa toward Merak, Ciawi toward Puncak, Cikampek Utama toward Trans Java, and Kalihurip Utama toward Bandung.
Jasa Marga President Director Rivan A. Purwantono stated that outbound traffic from Jabodetabek increased by 16.21 percent compared to normal conditions. He noted that traffic volumes had remained consistently high from seven days before until one day after the 2025 Christmas holiday.
“There remains substantial outbound traffic from Jabodetabek during this festive season,” Rivan said in an official statement on Saturday.
He explained that the majority of vehicles were heading east, with 748,720 vehicles, or 48.1 percent of total outbound traffic, traveling toward Trans Java and Bandung.
Meanwhile, westbound traffic toward Merak reached 446,404 vehicles, accounting for 28.7 percent, while 361,186 vehicles, or 23.2 percent, traveled toward Puncak (Bogor).
On the eastern route, 391,177 vehicles passed through the Cikampek Utama toll gate toward Trans Java, marking a 45.96 percent increase compared to normal traffic levels. Traffic heading to Bandung via the Kalihurip Utama toll gate totaled 357,543 vehicles, up 25.58 percent. Overall, eastbound traffic rose by 35.46 percent.
Traffic toward Merak via the Cikupa toll gate remained relatively stable, with a slight increase of 0.22 percent, while traffic toward Puncak through the Ciawi toll gate grew by 5.91 percent compared to regular conditions.
Rivan further reported that between Friday, December 26, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. WIB and Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. WIB, 176,131 vehicles left Jabodetabek, representing a 4.48 percent increase over usual levels.
At the same time, Jasa Marga has begun to observe an uptick in return traffic to Jabodetabek. On the day after Christmas, 153,529 vehicles re-entered the area through the four main toll gates, a 6.78 percent increase from normal conditions.
In preparation for the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year holiday period, Jasa Marga urged toll road users to plan their trips carefully. Drivers are advised to ensure their vehicles are in good condition, maintain their health, take regular breaks, and ensure sufficient fuel and electronic toll balance.
The company also encouraged travelers to monitor real-time traffic conditions through the Travoy application and to comply with traffic signs and instructions from on-duty officers.
