UK Braces for -4°C Cold Snap as Weather Maps Reveal Freezing Conditions Across 32 Areas

More than 30 areas across Scotland and England could experience subzero temperatures next week, with weather forecasts indicating that temperatures may drop to as low as -4°C on November 13, according to the Express.

WXCharts forecasts suggest that areas around Inverness in Scotland and Manchester in England could experience some of the coldest conditions during the expected cold spell.

The weather maps show temperatures potentially falling to -4°C in parts of both regions, signaling a possible return to wintry conditions across northern and central parts of the United Kingdom.

Several areas could also see temperatures ranging between -2°C and -4°C around November 13. These include Northumberland, Cumberland, Durham, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire.

Areas Facing Potential Subzero Temperatures

In Scotland, the areas potentially affected include Highland, Moray, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Argyll and Bute, Clackmannanshire, South Lanarkshire, West Lothian, North Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway, and the Scottish Borders.

In England, the forecast covers Northumberland, Cumberland, Durham, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, and Northamptonshire.

The expected temperature drop forms part of a broader shift in weather patterns across the UK during mid-November. However, the intensity of the cold spell and the areas likely to be affected remain subject to change as forecasts are updated.

Met Office Forecasts Possible Cold Air Moving Into Northern UK

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for November 10–19 suggests that much of southern England could initially experience milder and wetter conditions as weather fronts move in from the southwest.

Northern parts of the country, meanwhile, are expected to remain relatively dry. However, the national weather service has indicated that colder conditions could begin spreading southward from the north towards the end of the following week.

“Towards the end of the week, we may see colder conditions spreading from the north. Although the details of this cold spell remain uncertain, it could bring brief wintry showers to northern parts of the UK,” the Met Office stated in its outlook.

The agency also noted that conditions could subsequently shift towards a westerly airflow, bringing more unsettled weather and periods of rain, particularly across northwestern areas.

UK Could Turn Warmer Before Another Cold Spell Arrives

The Met Office outlook suggests that temperatures across the UK could temporarily rise before colder air moves in.

Weather systems crossing the country during the first half of the forecast period are expected to bring spells of rain and strong winds, accompanied by milder air from the Atlantic.

Southern parts of the UK are more likely to experience wetter and milder conditions for a time, while northern areas are expected to remain comparatively dry.

The possibility of colder northwesterly winds developing later in the forecast period is also being monitored. Depending on how weather systems evolve, these conditions could bring drier and brighter weather to some areas.

However, showers may still affect exposed locations and could turn wintry over higher ground.

The Met Office has stressed that confidence in the longer-range forecast remains limited. The precise development and movement of weather systems should become clearer as further updates are issued.
