Two Cyclone Seeds Detected Near Indonesia

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced on Friday (November 14, 2025) that early developments of Cyclone 97S have been detected in the Indian Ocean, southwest of West Nusa Tenggara.

According to BMKG, the initial formation of the cyclone identified in the TCWC Jakarta Area of Monitoring (AoM) shows peak wind speeds of around 15 knots or 28 kilometers per hour, with a minimum atmospheric pressure of 1009 hPa.

BMKG is also monitoring the early stages of Tropical Cyclone 91W, which could potentially develop into a tropical cyclone within the next one to three days.

“Initial indications suggest that Tropical Cyclone 91W may intensify into a tropical cyclone within 24–72 hours at a low level as it moves eastward,” BMKG stated in an official announcement as reported by Antara.

Although the potential for further development remains low, both cyclone seeds are moving eastward and require continuous monitoring.

BMKG urges the public to remain alert to changes in local weather patterns.

The agency reports that these cyclone seeds may trigger moderate to heavy rainfall in East Java, Bali, and East Nusa Tenggara, while West Nusa Tenggara may experience heavy to very heavy rain.

In addition, BMKG has warned of strong winds in East Nusa Tenggara, which could also contribute to rising wave heights in surrounding waters.

Wave heights are expected to reach 1.25 to 2.5 meters in the Indian Ocean south of East Java to Bali, south of West Nusa Tenggara, and in waters from the southern Bali Strait to the western Sumba Strait.
Higher waves, ranging from 2.5 to 4.0 meters, are forecast in the Indian Ocean south of East Nusa Tenggara.

Meanwhile, BMKG forecaster Sentia reported updates on weather developments across major cities today.

In Sumatra, areas such as Aceh, Pekanbaru, and Medan are expected to see dense cloud cover, while Tanjung Pinang may experience rain accompanied by lightning.

Across Java, light rain is predicted, with showers possible in Serang, Jakarta, and Bandung. Moderate rain is likely in Semarang and Yogyakarta, while Surabaya should prepare for rain with lightning.

In Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Mataram is expected to be cloudy, Denpasar may see light rain, and Kupang is forecast to experience thunderstorms.

In Kalimantan, light rain is expected in several areas, especially Palangkaraya, while thunderstorms may affect Tanjung Selor, Pontianak, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin.

Across Sulawesi, Gorontalo and Manado are forecast to be cloudy, with light rain expected in Palu and Mamuju, and possible rain in Makassar.

For eastern Indonesia, light rain is expected in Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya, while Merauke may see rain and Nabire is projected to experience thunderstorms.
