Switzerland Claim First Win with Dominant 4–1 Victory Over Bosnia
Switzerland secured their first victory of the 2026 World Cup campaign with a convincing 4–1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in their second Group B match at Los Angeles Stadium, United States, on Friday morning (WIB).
After a goalless first half, Switzerland scored four times through Johan Manzambi, who netted twice, Ruben Vargas, and Granit Xhaka from the penalty spot. Bosnia and Herzegovina managed a late consolation goal through Ermin Mahmic.
The victory moved Switzerland to the top of the Group B standings with four points from two matches, while Bosnia and Herzegovina remained at the bottom with just one point.
Switzerland started brightly and created the first clear chance in the 10th minute when Dan Ndoye’s effort drifted wide of the target.
Ndoye threatened again ten minutes later, but his shot was comfortably saved by Bosnia goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.
Bosnia created little danger in the opening half and only registered a notable attempt in the 38th minute when Amar Dedic tested Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who made a routine save. The score remained 0–0 at halftime.
Switzerland increased the pressure after the break. Breel Embolo came close to opening the scoring in the 63rd minute, but Vasilj was once again equal to the task.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 74th minute. Johan Manzambi connected with a cross from the left flank and beat Vasilj to give Switzerland a 1–0 lead.
Bosnia’s situation worsened shortly afterward when Tarik Muharemovic was shown a red card for a foul on Embolo, reducing his side to ten men.
Switzerland quickly took advantage of their numerical superiority. Ruben Vargas doubled the lead in the 84th minute with a composed finish after receiving a pass from Embolo.
Manzambi struck again in the 90th minute, finishing off a pass from Vargas to make it 3–0 and effectively put the game beyond Bosnia’s reach.
Bosnia pulled one back in stoppage time through Ermin Mahmic, whose powerful long-range effort found the net in the 90+3rd minute.
However, Switzerland had the final say. Four minutes later, Granit Xhaka converted a penalty to seal a comprehensive 4–1 victory.
