Gaza Receives First WHO Medical Shipment in Months

On Thursday, June 26, 2025, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the organization had delivered its first batch of medical aid to Gaza since March 2.

In a post on X, Ghebreyesus stated that WHO had transported “nine trucks carrying essential medical supplies, 2,000 units of blood, and 1,500 units of plasma” to Gaza on Wednesday.

The supplies were transported via the Kerem Shalom crossing “without any incidents of looting, despite the high-risk conditions along the route,” he wrote.

The blood and plasma were delivered to a cold storage facility at the Nasser Medical Complex and will be distributed to hospitals “facing critical shortages, amid a growing number of injuries, many linked to incidents at food distribution sites,” he added.

Ghebreyesus also noted that “four WHO trucks are still at Kerem Shalom, and more are en route to Gaza.” He emphasized that the remaining shipments will be distributed to priority hospitals in the coming days.

This delivery marks a rare success amid severely limited humanitarian access to Gaza, where the health system has been devastated by ongoing conflict.

“However, these medical supplies are only a drop in the ocean. Aid at scale is essential to save lives,” Ghebreyesus stressed.

He reiterated the organization’s call for broader humanitarian access, stating, “WHO calls for the immediate, unimpeded, and sustained delivery of health aid into Gaza through all possible routes.”

Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza has continued to deteriorate due to the prolonged conflict between Israel and Palestine, which has intensified since October 2023.

As of June 18, reports indicate that over 55,637 Palestinians have been killed or injured, and approximately 70% of Gaza’s infrastructure has been damaged.
