Falling Kapuas River Levels Disrupt Fuel Shipments to Sintang

Fuel distribution to Sintang Regency and surrounding areas has been disrupted as water levels in the Kapuas River have dropped, affecting the movement of fuel transport vessels to the Fuel Terminal in Sintang.

According to a subsidiary of Pertamina, the declining water levels have affected access for fuel transport vessels traveling along the Kapuas River to the terminal, which is located in the upper reaches of the river.

To prevent fuel shortages caused by disruptions to the distribution route, Pertamina is improving supporting facilities in Tayan, Sanggau Regency, which will serve as an alternative supply point for Sintang and surrounding areas.

Pertamina has also prepared an alternative distribution route using the facilities in Tayan. In a written statement on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Kitty said, “We are still working to improve this facility so that fuel can be distributed smoothly to Sintang and the surrounding areas.”

The alternative distribution arrangement is intended to bring fuel supply points closer to areas affected by the disruption and allow the company to adjust its distribution patterns according to conditions on the ground.

Pertamina is monitoring water levels in the Kapuas River, fuel demand, and developments in the affected areas. The company is also coordinating with local governments and other stakeholders to ensure that fuel distribution remains safe and runs smoothly.

“Fuel is essential for mobility and economic activities. Pertamina continues to prepare alternative distribution mechanisms and adjust its operations based on actual conditions in the field so that the community’s fuel needs can continue to be met,” Kitty said.
