Eid Return Wave Ongoing, 42% of Travelers Still Outside Jakarta

The head of the Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that as of Wednesday, March 25, 2026, around 42 percent of Eid travelers have not yet returned to Jakarta. These travelers are expected to return gradually to the capital by the end of this weekend.

“We are still handling the situation even though Operation Ketupat has officially ended,” Agus said in a written statement from Semarang on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He added that the police continue to work to ensure smooth traffic flow during the post-Eid return period.

The Integrated Police Operation, known as Operation Ketupat, ended on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, after running from March 13, 2026.

Police data shows that approximately 2 million travelers have returned to Jakarta so far, out of an estimated total of 3.4 million people expected to enter the capital during this holiday period.

To help ease congestion during the return flow, the police have urged the public to take advantage of the government’s remote work policy.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that travelers are encouraged to schedule their return between March 25 and 27 to help reduce peak traffic. He made the statement while introducing the national one-way traffic scheme at Kalikangkung Toll Gate in Central Java on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

According to a joint ministerial decree, the Eid al-Fitr public holiday was observed from March 20 to March 24, 2026. Additionally, under Circular Letter №2 of 2026 issued by the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, the government has implemented a work-from-home (WFH) policy for both public and private sector employees on March 26 and 27, 2026.
