Brimob SAR Teams Evacuate Residents as Floods Hit Padang

Padang — On Monday, August 3, 2026, personnel from the Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit of the West Sumatra Regional Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) swiftly evacuated residents after heavy rainfall triggered flooding in several residential areas across Padang.

“Our top priority is saving lives,” said Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Indonesian National Police (INP). “INP personnel are working alongside other emergency response teams to evacuate affected residents while also collecting data on victims and displaced families.”

As part of the 2026 Aman Nusa II Contingency Plan, 71 personnel were deployed in five SAR teams to assist residents stranded by the flooding.

The teams were assigned to several of the hardest-hit areas, including Kuranji, Air Pacah, Tunggul Hitam, and the Villa Bukit Gading III housing complex in Sungai Sapih. Equipped with rubber boats, outboard motors, life jackets, and portable generators, personnel navigated floodwaters to evacuate stranded residents and provide emergency assistance.
