Elementary Sweethearts (And A Lifelong After)
When I was a kid, everything was simple — go to school, learn, and head straight home. Nothing too special, just the usual routine.
But one day, about a month into the school year, our teacher gave us a group assignment. I was paired with a girl named Betty. We divided the tasks, worked together, and just like that, we started talking more often.
After we graduated from elementary school, Betty moved to Singapore because her mom got a job there. Even though we were miles apart, we still kept in touch — chatting on the phone, sometimes just saying hi, sometimes talking for hours.
Fifteen years later, life pulled one of its classic twists. I bumped into Betty again… at work. Turns out, we ended up working in the same office. We caught up like no time had passed, and after work that day, we went to a little restaurant near the office.
Over dinner, we talked — about childhood, life, dreams. Then I looked at her, eyes steady, and said something she never expected.
“I think it’s time. We’ve known each other since elementary school… Will you marry me?”
She smiled. “Yes, I will.”
And just like that, the story that started with a group assignment ended in a wedding. Now, we’re living our very own happy ending.
