YouTube Under Fire Over 90-Second Unskippable Ads

Users on the social media platform Reddit have reported encountering 90-second unskippable ads on YouTube, raising concerns and frustration. Many say the experience is disruptive, as they are forced to spend a significant amount of time watching advertisements.

According to YouTube’s official guidelines, non-skippable ads on connected TVs should not exceed 30 seconds. However, several Reddit users claim they have seen ads lasting up to 90 seconds without any breaks.

These longer ads are reportedly appearing on the YouTube TV app rather than on mobile devices.

“So basically, these new 90-second unskippable ads appear to go against the rules — or at least that’s how it looks for now,” an analyst from Android Authority said in a report published on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Advertising has always been a key source of revenue for YouTube. However, analysts warn that the platform’s move toward longer and unavoidable ads may make the viewing experience feel more like traditional cable television.

Many users initially turned to YouTube to avoid the heavy ad loads typically found on cable TV.

Some observers believe YouTube may be deliberately increasing the frequency and duration of unskippable ads to encourage more users to subscribe to its premium service, which offers an ad-free experience.
