Spain’s World Cup Victory Sparks Celebrations in Gaza

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, Palestinians gathered at several cafés in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup final and celebrate Spain’s victory over Argentina.

The public screening gave Gaza residents a chance to temporarily escape the stress of war and the hardships of daily life in the Palestinian territory.

Many Gazans who watched the final supported Spain because of the country’s continued support for Palestinian rights.

“We came together to support Spain because it has stood with the Palestinian people for years,” said Numan Abdullah, a Gaza resident who attended the public screening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, as reported by Antara, citing Anadolu.

Abdullah said the support also conveyed a message of peace and solidarity with countries that support Palestine.

“We are a people who want peace,” he added.

Spain won the 2026 FIFA World Cup by defeating Argentina 1–0 after extra time in Sunday’s final.

The victory marked Spain’s second World Cup title, following its first triumph in 2010.

Meanwhile, Argentina failed to defend the world title it won at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
