Heavy Rains Flood Jakarta, Displacing Over 1,800 People
Heavy rainfall that has affected Jakarta and surrounding areas since Thursday, January 22, 2026, has caused flooding in several parts of the capital. As of Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. local time, 78 neighborhood units (RT) and seven roads were still inundated, according to the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
“BPBD has recorded flooding in 78 RTs and seven roads,” said Mohamad Yohan, Head of the Data and Information Center of BPBD Jakarta, in a written statement on Saturday.
As a result, 1,809 residents have been evacuated to temporary shelters across the city.
In West Jakarta, 257 people from 48 families in Kedaung Kali Angke Sub-district were evacuated to several locations, including Masjid Jami Al Khaeer, Masjid Jami Al Fudhollah, Masjid Muhajirin, PAUD Nusantara, the RW 002 post, and Musala Nurul Ikhsan. Meanwhile, in Rawa Buaya Sub-district, 186 people from 48 families are taking shelter at Masjid Baitul Rahman and Masjid Hidayatussalam. Jelambar Sub-district reported 77 evacuees from 20 families housed at Musala At Taqwa and Masjid Nurul Islam.
In South Kedoya Sub-district, 139 residents have been evacuated to Musala Al Hijrah, the sub-district office, and the RT 011/RW 005 hall. South Kembangan Sub-district recorded 60 evacuees at Majlis Daarul Muhyi, while North Kembangan Sub-district sheltered 30 residents at Masjid Jami Al Ikhlas.
Additionally, 65 people were evacuated to the KS Tubun flat hall in South Kota Bambu Sub-district, and 173 residents sought refuge at Masjid Baitul Khoir in Duri Kosambi Sub-district.
In Central Jakarta, evacuation centers were set up in Karet Tengsin Sub-district, accommodating 256 people at PAUD Nusantara, the Muhajirin Mosque hall, and Integrated Public Child-Friendly Spaces in Segas and Intiland.
East Jakarta reported 200 evacuees at Masjid Al Muqorrobin in Cipinang Melayu Sub-district, 209 people in Halim Perdana Kusuma Sub-district, and 60 individuals at Musala Al Islah in Cawang Sub-district.
In North Jakarta, 97 residents from 25 families were sheltered in an alley near Masjid Nurul Jannah in Kapuk Muara Sub-district.
BPBD Jakarta has deployed personnel to monitor and assess flood conditions across affected areas. Residents are urged to remain alert to potential flooding. “In case of emergency, residents can contact 112. The service is free and operates 24 hours a day,” Yohan said.
