Film Producer Denies Using Purchased Characters in “Red White: One For All”

In response to debates on social media, Endiarto — producer of the animated movie Red White: One For All — explained in detail how the film’s characters were created, firmly denying claims that they were simply purchased from digital asset stores.

He emphasized that in today’s digital animation industry, using paid software, templates, and digital assets is common practice. “We can’t create every tool ourselves. We buy and use editing software such as CapCut and Filmora. There are many applications and templates available,” Endiarto said in South Jakarta.

Comparing modern workflows to traditional animation, he explained that sketches are now made digitally instead of by hand. “In the past, we drew on paper, frame by frame. Now everything is digital, and templates help speed up the process,” he said.

Endiarto stressed that character concepts are always developed internally before any digital visualization takes place. “If people say we just buy a character, that’s wrong. For example, if we have a character named Nara, we first decide all the details about her. Only after that do we create the digital sketches,” he clarified.

His team uses both free and paid references to refine designs, ensuring they stay true to the original concept. “Free references can be found on Google, but for a closer match, we need paid ones,” he explained, adding that the eight main characters were fully conceptualized before any digital work began.

The controversy began when 3D artist Junaid Miran pointed out similarities between his designs and characters shown in the film’s trailer. His character set, sold on the Reallusion website for $149 (around IDR 2.4 million), was never licensed for commercial projects like movies.

“Thank you to everyone in Indonesia for the kind words! To answer the most common question — no, I haven’t heard from any production team,” Junaid wrote on YouTube. He claimed the filmmakers used six of his characters without recognition, including the film’s lead.
