BMKG Predicts Rain and Hazy Weather in Several Major Cities

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said several major cities in Indonesia are expected to experience rain and haze on Friday, August 28.

BMKG forecaster Ranika Dwi, in a weather update broadcast from Jakarta, warned residents in several areas to remain alert to weather conditions that could bring rain and reduce visibility.

She said moderate rain was expected in Nabire, while light rain was forecast in Medan, Jambi, Bengkulu, Tanjung Selor, Mamuju, Palu, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke, as reported by ANTARA.

Ranika explained that the potential for increased cloud growth was associated with areas of wind convergence and confluence. These areas extend from western to eastern Indonesia, covering the Malacca Strait, the North Natuna Sea, the Makassar Strait, and the Pacific Ocean north of Papua.

BMKG also forecast haze in Bandar Lampung, Pontianak, and Manokwari. Meanwhile, hazy conditions were expected in Pekanbaru, Padang, Palembang, Palangkaraya, Banjarmasin, and Ternate.

Other areas, including Banda Aceh, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Samarinda, most parts of Java, Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Gorontalo, Manado, Ambon, and Sorong, were expected to experience generally sunny conditions with partly cloudy or overcast skies.
