71,744 Schools Targeted in Indonesia’s 2026 Revitalization Program
The Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education aims to improve 71,744 schools through its revitalization program by 2026. The government has allocated Rp14 trillion for the initiative.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said the school improvement program is a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto.
According to Mu’ti, around 60,000 educational units are expected to be included in the program. The Indonesian Government’s Communications Bureau stated on Thursday, May 7, 2026, that the president has repeatedly emphasized the importance of accelerating school revitalization efforts.
Mu’ti said the 2026 revitalization program has already begun. The government has signed thousands of agreements with educational institutions and started distributing assistance worth Rp2.6 trillion.
“We have begun implementing the 2026 program. We have signed agreements with 4,838 schools and educational institutions, and funds have been distributed to 3,408 of them,” Mu’ti said.
He added that the government is prioritizing schools damaged by natural disasters.
“In 2026, the focus will be on repairing schools affected by disasters, including those in Sumatra and other parts of Indonesia,” he said.
In addition, the government will prioritize schools in underdeveloped, remote, and outermost (3T) areas, as well as schools suffering severe damage outside disaster-prone and 3T regions.
Mu’ti explained that schools in 3T areas and those with severe damage, even if they are not located in disaster zones or 3T regions, will receive priority under the 2026 revitalization program.
